Harry Potter & Anime/Manga Fans Community

Hi there, I'm new, orcapotter just introduced me to this community in a manga scanlations community. I've been reading HP for years. I'm also a huge fan of manga and anime (been into it longer than HP, incidentially) , but I only just started getting interesting in the mixture of the two fandoms. Well, so, I was wondering if anyone has any good Harry Potter doujinshi they would mind sharing? I've already poked around Akutenshi a bit and I'm grabbing some there, but I've no idea where to look next.
As for preferences, I don't particularily like yaoi (or slash), but I don't mind it and occaisonally read it. So, basically, anything anyone has to suggest or put forth is fine by me. :]
I appreciate everyone reading and thanks in advance for anything anyone has to share!
By the way, I'm blnl2k2. I'm 18 years old and female. I'm a resident of Alaska, and I really like Furuba, Naruto, Evangelion, FLCL, Full Metal Alchemist and really a lot more... Oh and also Silent Hill (though thats a game...) I'm pretty angsty, and all that, but I like meeting new people. Good to meet you all, I'm excited!

I found this community through the scanlation site too. I'm not really into doujinshi, but I like both HP and anime. I'm also into Furuba and think Evangelion may be one of the best animes ever. ^_^

Welcome! Lots of us here like FMA, in fact. ^_^

I do have some doujins but 1) they're shounen ai and 2) I'm actually kind of retarded when it comes to scanning/resizing/uploading. I'd love some advice if anyone has any. I have half of one of my Remus/Sirius DJs scanned in, but a) the pictures are huge and I'm not sure how to resize without messing them up and b) I've only ever used yousendit to send to one person, or megaupload to receive files. I know how to make a rar file, but I've only ever sent them on AIM or to one other person on yousendit, and it took forever. So... if anyone here is a tech otaku, feel free to lend your advice. ^_~

Here are the front and back pages, anyway:

Hi, I'm from nowhere, but I think I can help a little.

a) resizing: if you have a decent image program (Photoshop, PSP &c are the expensive ones; you can download GIMP for free at www.gimp.com and it has the same basic functions; NOT PAINT), go to 'Image' and find either 'resize,' 'modify image,' or anything along those lines. Under that, find 'Scale' (this should be the same in all programs). When the dialogue opens, you should be able to either type in a pixel size (it's important to keep dimensions locked) or actually resize directly on the screen. If you're scanning doujin, it's probably best to pick one set size and use it for all the images. Then if there's a quality slider/compression choice use whatever says 'Best,' (which is usually 'Circular' or something like that), which will keep more details.

b) sharing: if you send to yousendit or megaupload, you should get a 'Success!' screen or a 'Success!' email which will have the download link on it. At that page, all you have to do is copy-paste that link and then copy-paste it to LJ or wherever you'd like to share the file. You might have to warn/remind people that uploads last either seven days or 25 downloads and if you want to you'll need to let them know where/how/when to contact you if the download period is over.

Hope that helps! *slinks off*

a) I know how to use the "resize image" function in photoshop: I just don't know what size to make the pages so that it wont be a huge file to download. There's also that "image quality"... I know that "best" makes really big files. So... is that bad? Or...? How do I know what's going to actually work well? Is there some standard?

b) Do I just send it to myself first then, or do they have a generic "send it to megaupload" choice?

c) Also, I've considered uploading the pages to my website, as I did with the back and front of that Sirius one. But *blushes* I don't know anything about how much bandwidth I'm allowed to use. One time when someone on our group went to a LOTR con and got pics of herself with Elijah Wood, I went over and they charged me $5. That wasn't a big deal, but I don't want to screw it up...? *is embarrased at own ignorance*

Thanks for your help!

a) I don't know the 'standard' per se, but try a few different sizes and focus on the text. If it's legible (and the images are fairly clear), it should be a pretty good size. If you want, you could try downloading some doujin and using their size specifications. 'Best' just keeps the images a bit less pixellated; 'linear' will work fine if you're focusing mainly on sizing and legibility.

b) When you send it to yourself, take the link that they send you and use that; anyone should be able to access it if you give it to them.

c) You'll have to check with your host. Each host has different limits or something like that, but there should be a limit and there should be some way on the editing page to sort of gauge how much bandwidth you're using. I'm not too sure about bandwidth limits, though, because I don't have a website of my own. ^_____^;

No problem! Sorry I wasn't clearer the first time 'round.
